This picture cracks me up because I was sent to take picture of two pit bulls who had the reputation of terrorizing an Ogdensburg neighborhood. When I pulled up to the home this is the scene I found. Two vicious pit bulls begging for a bite of this little boy's ice cream. Then they saw me an went crazy. As a lover of all animals, especially dogs, I was petrified of these two powerhouses.
I like the irony of this picture I took at the Gouverneur and St. Lawrence County Fair. You have this cow watching its owner barbecuing hamburgers and hot dogs. If a the cow could speak it was probably saying "Hey a little sensitivity here please."
I took this picture through an old tractor wheel of two men shooting the breeze during the St. Lawrence Valley Draft Horse annual Plow Days. I like the nostalgia in this image. It reminds of what my grandfather use to refer to as the "art of loafing."
This photo won first place in the sports category in the New York State Associated Press Photo Contest in 2003. It was taken at the NCAA Division III Outdoor track an Field Championships at St. Lawrence University. This picture shows how athletes give every thing they have to their sport even if it means collapsing at the end of the race as did this distance runner.
We were doing a story about longtime piano teacher Jeanette L. Deleel, Massena, who was deciding to retire. This picture reminds me of what I like to call a Norman Rockwell moment. It has a kindhearted woman teaching, a little boy whose feet doesn't reach the pedals and with a cantankerous looking cat in the foreground.
I was taking pictures of this little boy riding bareback on a horse when it lined up with another one to make it look like one long horse. I love the goofiness of this image. You can't go wrong when taking pictures of animals and kids.
In this picture Glenn H. Larsen, Rensselaer Falls, is swimming across the St. Lawrence River from Ogdensburg to Canada. There was a small craft warning on that day because the river was so rough. I was in a boat scared to death and then you this guy fearless swimming through huge waves.
I love the personality and the character lines in the face of harmonica player Fred V. Higby.
I won a first sports award from the New York State Associated Press Photo Contest in 2004 with this photo. A Potsdam Central lacrosse player checks a St. Lawrence Central player so hard it knocks his glove off. I was at the proverbial right place and the right time to capture this picture.
I loved covering this story on cranberry farmer Peter G. Paquin. It was a visual gold mine. There was an incredible richness in the blue sky and red berries and one can almost feel the crispness of the fall in the air.
