MASSENA — The Massena Arena will be the site of a new event hosted this month by the Massena Recreation Department.
Nikki Debien from the Massena Recreation Department has been organizing a Bridal Expo, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 21.
She said she hopes to make it an annual event, and so far, the reception has been positive.
“I have about 20 vendors lined up right now,” Ms. Debien said.
Among the vendors that have committed to the event so far are the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort, Forevermore Studio, A&J Embroidery, Lasting Memories, Christina Fenner Photography, Belle Pastry Design, 2 Mama Birds, Cheers Design & Event Planning, NNY Photobooths, Travis MacDonald Photography and Design Me Lovely Events.
Others who plan on being at the event are Sun on the Run, Kesuto Jewelry Design, Studio 162, Chase the Lights Productions, Majestic Fireworks, On the Edge Designs, Painterly Faces, Secret Gardens Bows and Bands, and Sposa Bella.
“I have photographers, designers, makeup artists, hair studios, jewelry makers, cake makers, event coordinators. I have one guy that does photo booths, Majestic Fireworks and DJs,” Ms. Debien said.
Many of the vendors are from the local area, she said.
“I have a couple from Canton, one from Lake Placid and one from Watertown. Watertown is the farthest I’ve heard from,” Ms. Debien said.
“I’m hoping to get more. I have three weeks to hear from people. They can contact me up until the week before,” she said.
Plans are still ongoing, but Ms. Debien said vendors will set up in the morning for the show, and among the activities she is planning is a fashion show.
It’s also an opportunity for people to meet with the vendors who will be set up inside the arena.
“It’s a meet and greet for brides. They can show what they have to offer. We’ll have a lot of giveaways,” she said.
Ms. Debien said she also hopes to hold a raffle for donated items during the day.
Bridal shows typically are held in the spring, but she said holding one in September would give brides and bridegrooms an opportunity to plan for their wedding far in advance.
“I know Ogdensburg has their bridal show in the spring. I figured it would be something good to do in Massena,” she said.
It’s an opportunity not only for future brides to see what’s available, but for vendors to showcase what they have available, according to Ms. Debien.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase all our local wedding industry businesses,” she said.
