POTSDAM — Former St. Lawrence University defenseman Britni Smith will be joining the Clarkson University women’s hockey team as an assistant coach.
The defending national champion Golden Knights had two openings as former co-head coach Shannon Desrosiers resigned at the end of the season to spend more time with her family and the program’s only assistant coach, Matt Kelly, recently resigned to become head scout of the U.S. women’s national team.
Kazmaler Award Finalist
Smith played in 146 games for SLU from 2006-10 and scored 20 goals with 54 assists in her career.
When she was a senior she was one of the 10 finalists for the Patty Kazmaier Award.
Smith, a native of Port Perry, Ontario, was an assistant coach with the University of Toronto last year and also played in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League, scoring the game-winning goal in the 2014 Clarkson Cup championship game to lead the Toronto Furies past the Boston Blades.
