More than 900 runners from 29 states and Canada have signed up for Sunday’s third annual 18.12 Challenge and Half Marathon.

Both races are scheduled to start at 7 a.m. in front of Immaculate Heart Central High School on Ives Street and end on the historic 1812 Battlefield in Sackets Harbor.

More than 140 volunteers from across the area have signed up to assist, including 14 area businesses and organizations that will staff the water/aid stations along the route.

Registration opened on Feb. 1, and the 812 slots for runners quickly filled up. Race organizers then opened another 100 slots in June, and those also went fast.

Competitors may compete in the half marathon (13.1 miles) or the 18.12 Challenge (18.12 miles). Last year, 827 people signed up and 642 competitors finished their respective races. Martin Nicholson of Syracuse won the 18.12 distance and Nick Webster of Latham the half marathon.
