A St. Lawrence County woman was sentenced Monday in Oswego County Court for the January rape of a 13-year-old boy.
Tanya M. Sochia, 30, of Brasher Falls, was sentenced Monday in Oswego County Court to six months in Oswego County jail and 10 years’ probation, according to Oswego County Assistant District Attorney Allison M. O’Neill.
Sochia pleaded guilty June 16 to the top count of second-degree rape, Ms. O’Neill said. She originally was indicted by a grand jury on April 17 on that charge as well as the misdemeanor of endangering the welfare of a child.
Ms. O’Neill said that sentencing was left to the discretion of the court but that Sochia faced up to seven years in prison for the rape, which took place at the boy’s Central Square home. She was a family friend at the time of the incident, Ms. O’Neill said.
In addition to sentencing, Sochia will have to register as a sex offender with the state Department of Criminal Justice Services; a hearing to determine her level will be held following her release from county jail. She also was ordered to pay a total of $1,425 in court fines, fees and surcharges. An order of protection was issued in favor of the victim.
