JOHNSTOWN — Ryan Semore connected on a 10-yard touchdown pass to Chris Furr with 3 minutes, 38 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to lift the Watertown Red and Black to a 28-26 Empire Football League victory over Glove Cities on Saturday at Knox Field.

Jaren Jackson supplied a 70-yard kickoff return that set up the winning touchdown.

Head coach George Ashcraft is grateful for the road victory, which preserves the Red and Black’s undefeated record.

“We’re glad to be 5-0,” Ashcraft said. “They definitely played their best game of the year.”

He anticipates the old-time rivalry between Watertown and Glove Cities may be rekindled, and he acknowledged Glove Cities quarterback Salih Banks, who threw for 165 yards.

“(Glove Cities) played a hell of a game,” Ashcraft said. “You gotta give them credit for that.”

Semore completed 8 of 14 passes for 100 yards, including two TDs. He also rushed one yard for a touchdown to start the scoring in the first quarter.

Indian River’s Curtis Dukes finished with 21 carries for 143 yards, including a 1-yard TD run in the third quarter.

Furr and Edgar Givens each recorded three receptions, including a touchdown.

Matt Kepler led the defense with 13 tackles, while Shawn Davis finished with eight tackles. Ky Sawyer had a fumble recovery, and Mark Latour supplied a key sack for the Red and Black.

Watertown is off the next two weeks before playing Sept. 13 at Plattsburgh. Watertown defeated Plattsburgh, 40-35, on Aug. 2.
