WATERTOWN — An Indiana man wanted in connection with the death of a taxi cab driver in Kentucky pleaded guilty to separate charges Monday afternoon in Jefferson County Court.

Miles J. Matthews, 27, pleaded guilty to fifth-degree possession of stolen property before Judge Kim H. Martusewicz. He was sentenced to time served. Mr. Matthews also signed paperwork during his appearance moving forward his extradition to face additional charges in Kentucky.

State and city police officers rushed on Mr. Matthews at North Meadow Street on the morning of July 20 after he was found in a silver 2007 Chrysler Sebring belonging to taxi driver Adam Gregg.

Mr. Gregg, of Louisville, was found dead days earlier at a Kentucky farm.

With several members of law enforcement surrounding him, guns drawn, Mr. Matthews was taken into custody without incident.

State police said at the time of the arrest that heroin was involved in Mr. Gregg’s killing, but had no other specifics.

Police also said they did not have a clear explanation for why Mr. Matthews came to the area, with his only connection to the north country being a brief period of service at Fort Drum.
