FORT DRUM — Four soldiers returned to duty Friday morning while two remained hospitalized with injuries after lightning struck during a training exercise on post Thursday.

The soldiers — all from the 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team — were treated at area hospitals for unspecified, non-life-threatening injuries, said Julie Halpin, Fort Drum’s director of public affairs.

Fort Drum would not provide further information about the incident, conditions of the soldiers or names of the hospitals where they were sent.

Fort Drum emergency personnel, Indian River Ambulance Service and Gouverneur Rescue Squad responded to the incident, reported at 9:15 p.m. on Range 44.
