CANTON — Former SUNY Canton baseball player Jordan Hunneyman has signed a contract to play professional baseball with the Brownsville (Texas) Charros, who play in United Baseball League, an independent league.

Hunneyman, a native of Redwood, graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

He finished his baseball career at SUNY Canton with school records for hits with 111 and 10 home runs and drove in 85 runs.

The 2013-14 SUNY Canton Male Student-Athlete of the Year becomes the first Roos baseball player to sign with a professional team.

He played in his first game last Wednesday, giving up one run and four hits in two innings as a pitcher against Rio Grande.
