SACKETS HARBOR — U.S. Coast Guard personnel responded to a distress call from a sailing vessel Sunday morning and transported a Canadian woman to Main Duck Island. She then was taken by helicopter to Kingston, Ontario.

According to Chief Joshua L. Martin, personnel from the Sackets Harbor station arrived on scene at 11:17 a.m. and transported an unidentified woman showing signs of stroke to a Coast Guard rescue boat.

The woman, who had a weak pulse and was unresponsive, was taken immediately to Main Duck Island, where she was transferred to a Canadian rescue helicopter.

A diver aboard a nearby Canadian dive vessel was certified to administer oxygen and assisted Coast Guard personnel, Chief Martin said.

The woman was flown to Kingston for treatment.
