POTSDAM - The Potsdam Rotary Club (potsdamrotary.org) recently donated books and monetary support toward the Potsdam Farmers’ Market’s literacy outreach program, “Market Book Safari.”
One of Rotary International’s six areas of focus is to support education, via Rotary’s five avenues of service, two of which are community service and youth service.
The Kiwanis Club of Potsdam donated books to the program as well. Kiwanis clubs focus on changing the world by serving children, one child and one community at a time. Many clubs also sponsor a Kiwanis family club - K-Kids for primary school; Builders Clubs for adolescents; Key Clubs for teens; CKI clubs for university students and Aktion Clubs for adults living with disabilities.
The Potsdam Farmers’ Market is utilizing the website, bookcrossing.com, which allows participants to track the movement of traveling books. Each book is pre-registered with a specific tracking code and will be hidden at various booths within Potsdam Farmers’ Markets during July and August.
Children are welcome to take a book, free of charge, read it, and release it again to a location of their choosing.
