CLAYTON - The Antique Boat Museum will be visited by Hollywood actor and north country native Mark Valley at the upcoming 50th annual Antique Boat Show and Auction on Friday, Aug. 1 from 2 to 4 p.m.
Mr. Valley will attend the event and be available photos with guests and signing autographs in exchange for donations to the River Hospital’s River Community Wellness Program.
“When he’s here on campus we’ll have him signing autographs and taking photos with visitors,” said Michael J. Folsom, ABM Director of Marketing and Communications said. “We’ll be asking for a donation for the photos and autographs that will go to raise money for the River Hospital’s post traumatic stress disorder treatment center, a cause he’s very invested in.”
Mr. Valley is best known for his role on the hit series Boston Legal, which he played Brad Chase alongside William Shatner.
Mr. Valley has a longtime acting career playing characters on television shows such as Crisis, Body of Proof, Harry’s Law, Fringe, Human Target, and Days of Our Lives. He has also acted in various movie roles, he was the lead role in Jericho, the voice of Cyclops in the animated movie Shrek the Third, and had an appearance in Zero Dark Thirty.
The former Ogdensburg resident is a graduate of West Point and a former military service member, Mr. Valley is active with several veteran advocacy groups including Volunteers of America, GI Film Festival, VFT Advisory Board, and is a member of the Screen Actors Guild Armed Forces Committee.
Mr. Folsom said he and Mr. Valley have been exchanging Twitter and email messages for the past eight months. He said last year he happened to notice Mr. Valley followed Mr. Folsom’s Twitter account where he shares information regarding shipping on the St. Lawrence Seaway.
“I found it interesting he was interested in news of the area,” Mr. Folsom said. “From there it’s been a lot of Twitter and emails and it finally all fell into place.”
He said it will be a pleasure to celebrate the Antique Boat Show and Auction with a celebrity from the north country.
“It is exciting to welcome Mark back home to the north country and a pleasure to have someone of his celebrity status eager to be a part of our historic event this August,” Michael Folsom, Director of Marketing and Communications said. “We look forward to having him at the Museum.”
The 50th Annual Antique Boat Show and Auction will be held at the museum Aug. 1 through the 3. The Raceboat Regatta will take place the following weekend, Aug. 8 through 10.
