STALKING - NORFOLK - St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department deputies charged Terry L. Despaw, 67, of South Main Street, Norfolk, with fourth-degree stalking following an investigation into a series of incidents involving his estranged wife over the past six months. He was arraigned by Massena Town Justice James M. Crandall and released with a stipulation that he abide by the terms of an order of protection directing him to have no contact with Brenda M. Despaw. The couple, married for over 40 years, separated in September 2012, according to court documents. Ms. Despaw told police there had been issues when they first separated and similar issues had surfaced earlier this year when Mr. Despaw allegedly started sending her unwanted text messages and Facebook messages. She told deputies the harassing messages started in January and there were additional incidents in May and April even after state police told him to stop contacting her. The arrest warrant on the stalking charged had been signed by Norfolk Town Justice George Grubee.
