CANTON — A Canton man was indicted by a St. Lawrence County grand jury Monday for allegedly assaulting an Ogdensburg man with a baseball bat last year and stealing his marijuana.
The grand jury charged Jeffrey Hopper Jr., 23, of 124 County Route 16, with two counts of second-degree burglary and single counts of first-degree attempted robbery, second-degree assault, third-degree robbery, and third-degree criminal mischief. All of the charges are felonies.
The indictment alleges that on Dec. 18, Mr. Hopper broke into the 312 Clark St., Ogdensburg, home of Jacob M. Bresett, causing more than $250 in damage to property. While he was in the home, Mr. Hopper allegedly assaulted Mr. Bresett with a baseball bat and forcibly stole about half an ounce of marijuana from him, according to the indictment.
