NORWOOD - A new $1,100 public boat dock is now open for use at the Norwood boat launch.

The structure was paid for by the Norwood Lake Association and was installed by the village’s Department of Public Works on May 26.

“The Norwood Lake Association furnishes the boat dock and this is the fourth time we’ve replaced it,” association President James H. McFaddin said. “The boat dock has become increasingly popular in Norwood due to fishing.”

Mr. McFaddin said that a local resident caught a 44-inch Northern Pike Thursday morning and displayed his prize to restaurant goers at the Hometown Cafe yesterday.

“Fishing is excellent in Norwood, and it’s becoming a destination for many outside fishermen,” Mr. McFaddin said.

The group’s president, who also serves as the village’s mayor, said that the presence of the invasive species Eurasian milfoil in Norwood Lake was another reason for the installation of the new dock.

“We have Eurasian milfoil in the lake ,and we’re asking boaters when they launch them to check for vegetation and remove it before they go,” Mr. McFaddin said.

The association has been hiring people to assess the issue and remove as much of the milfoil as they can each year, but it is established practice to clean boats and trailers to keep the spread of invasive species to a minimum.

Brookfield Power provides the boat launch that opened Memorial Day weekend and closes in mid-October.
