Woolf supports raising the minimum wage

Aaron G. Woolf, a Democrat running for New York’s 21st Congressional District seat, is not afraid to support an increase in the minimum wage but he’s looking for a little help from his friends, according to an email sent Friday.

In the message, Mr. Woolf asked his supporters to sign a petition in support of increasing the minimum wage, though the email does not give a figure to which he would like to see it raised.

“You’ve probably heard a lot of talk about the minimum wage lately. Too many politicians are afraid to take a stance on an issue that directly impacts families all across the 21st district,” the message reads. “Those families deserve to know if their representative supports an increase in the minimum wage. Aaron Woolf strongly supports an increase in the minimum wage.”

The request was couched in a larger message about economic development, which Mr. Woolf said a higher minimum wage would help foster.

“Consumer spending drives 70 percent of our economy. As Aaron travels the district and meets with small business owners and workers, the message is clear: More money in workers’ pockets means our local economy thrives. And more money in workers’ pockets means less reliance on government services to make ends meet for themselves and their families.”

According to an email Saturday from Mr. Woolf’s campaign manager Stuart Rosenberg, the candidate supports an incremental increase in the minimum wage to $10.10 and would consider “tax offsets for small businesses to help address the costs to their operations.”
