Ritchie honors veterans at event on Fort Drum

FORT DRUM — Several veterans from the north country were honored Thursday during a ceremony on post.

The 28 veteran honorees were nominated for the state Senate’s “Veterans Hall of Fame” for their previous service and their continuing work in the community.

“It takes a very special, dedicated person to serve — and it takes an even more devoted person to continue to give back by serving one’s community,” event organizer state Sen. Patricia A. Ritchie, R-Heuvelton, said in a statement.

Military veterans honored during the ceremony were:

n Bianca Amthor, of Watertown: Army

n Clarence Benware, of Black River: Navy

n Andy Cambron, of Adams Center: Army

n Ed Flannigan, of Watertown: Army

n Arthur Krahn, of Clayton: Army

n Joseph McLaughlin, of Evans Mills: Army

n Ben Scordo, of Watertown: Army

n Robert VanBenschoten, of Henderson: Navy

n Fred VanPatten, of Watertown: Army Air Corps

n Robert Williams, of Clayton: Navy

n Stanley Zaremba, of Watertown: Army

n Frances Flanagan, formerly of Minetto: Air Force

n Robert Green, of Fulton: Navy

n Edward Hurley, formerly of Oswego: Army

n Richard LaCrosse Sr., formerly of Parish: Army Air Corps

n Maynard Lonis, of Phoenix: Merchant Marine
