ROCKPORT, Ontario Thousand Islands Arts, an umbrella organization north of the border consisting of artists, artisans, patrons and business partners from the Thousand Islands region, will host its 22nd annual spring art fair Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday in this village.
This is Victoria Day weekend in Canada.
Rockport is on the 1000 Islands Parkway (Route 401) between Gananoque and Brockville. Its exits off the parkway are 647 and 658. Rockport is about 10 miles from the Thousand Islands Bridge at Collins Landing.
In all, 25 artists will participate in the sale, which has a different format this year.
Participating artist Margot Miller, a textile artist, said all the artists will be exhibiting in the village of Rockport.
This is a new idea, rather than having the clients/customers drive to various studios, said Ms. Miller. We find with gas prices, and, I guess, time limits on many people, we thought we would center the show in the village of Rockport, where many of the artists live, and encourage the customers to walk from location to location therefore being a bit more eco-friendly as well.
The works of participating artists and artisans will be set up at the Rockport Recreation Hall, 115 Escott Rockport Road, and at three addresses (3, 11 and 12) on Front Street.
Items on display and for sale will range from cast stone garden art to stained glass mosaics.
Hours of the sale are from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
The sale opens with a wine-and-cheese gala from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Front Street fair locations. A roving minstrel will provide entertainment.
Lunch will be available at the event on Saturday and Sunday, with proceeds benefitting Rockport Recreation Hall.
