POTSDAM A Norfolk woman was jailed late Friday after a drug sting that allegedly caught her stealing prescription drugs from the Kinney Drugs in Potsdam where she worked.
St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force members charged Danielle M. Pelkey, 35, of 13 Adams Road, with the felony of second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and petit larceny.
St. Lawrence County District Attorney Mary E. Rain said the arrest follows an investigation involving task force members and Kinney Drugs internal security into Pelkeys alleged theft of 500 hydrocodone pills.
Court documents indicated Pelkey, who was working as a pharmacy technician at the store, took a 500-pill bottle of hydrocodone tablets from the pharmacy area, removed them from the bottle and placed them in her purse at the conclusion of her work day. She then left the store without making any attempt to pay for the pills.
Police reportedly watched Pelkey steal the pills on the stores live feed security cameras.
During a midnight arraignment before Acting Justice Margaret I. Garner in Potsdam Village Court, Chief Assistant District Attorney David Haggard requested that Pelkey be sent to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility without bail, due to the severity of the crime, Ms. Rain said.
