DEFERIET Village Fire Chief Timothy Irey informed the Board of Trustees at a Wednesday meeting that the departments budget was in the hole about eight grand.
But he added, We should be good to go. Thats because the department has planned several fundraisers including a fall pig roast, can drives and efforts to fill swimming pools.
Mr. Irey blamed the budget deficit on unfunded mandates.
We need to replace five sets of turnout gear for interior firefighters, he said. They have to be replaced every 10 years no matter how many fires they are in.
