Matthew A. Doheny, Republican candidate in the 21st Congressional District, has released his first television ad of the campaign.

The 30-second ad features Mr. Doheny’s wife, Mary, and son, Declan, which the candidate said in a release is his 1-year-old son’s first television appearance.

“Throughout this campaign we have been going door to door trying to talk to as many primary voters as possible, face to face — person to person,” Mr. Doheny said in a news release.“With a few weeks left in the campaign, we have some doors yet to hit, for those we might miss we launched this ad talking briefly about a few of the issues that I hear most about when I’m talking to voters. It’s also the television debut of our son Declan — which as a Dad is pretty cool.”

The ad will air throughout the district starting Wednesday.

The text of the ad introduces Declan, noting he was born “right here in the North Country at Samaritan Hospital.” It then says that his son’s generation will be saddled with high debt and few jobs because “DC insiders can’t solve problems.”

Mr. Doheny’s relatively subtle emphasis on his north country ties was an oblique swat at his Republican opponent, Elise M. Stefanik, Willsboro, who has worked in the Bush White House and for 2012 vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan.

Ms. Stefanik has had both television and radio ads running for a few weeks.

The two will meet in the June 24 primary.
