CANTON The St. Lawrence County Board of Legislators ratified a five-year contract Monday with Council 82, which represents corrections officers at the jail. The contract previously was approved by union membership.
The contract with about 60 corrections officers expired Dec. 31, 2011.
The pact calls for no salary increases in 2012 and 2013. In 2014, members will receive a $1,000 lump sump payment. Effective July 5, a new 10-step salary schedule will be established.
In 2015, members will receive a step increase only and a zero percent salary increase. In 2016, a 1.5 percent increase will be applied to the schedule. In 2017, a 2 percent increase will be applied to the schedule, county Human Resources Director Christopher S. Boulio said.
The contract also calls for higher co-pays on medical costs. Single employees will pay 10 percent of health insurance premium costs, he said.
The county settled contracts with Civil Service Employees Association and the Deputies Association in 2012. No union employees received pay increases in 2012.
CSEA members received a lump sum payment of $600 in 2013 and a 1.75 percent salary increase in 2014. Increased co-pays for medications and medical visits also began for them.
The road deputies received lump sum payments of $1,250 each for 2010 and 2011. A new step system began in 2013. They receive step increases only this year. They pay 10 percent toward the cost of a single health insurance plan and their co-pays increased.
The county is negotiating with the St. Lawrence County Indigent Defenders, which represents eight attorneys in the Public Defenders and Conflict Defenders offices. The attorneys formed a union last year primarily because of unhappiness over the countys treatment of compensatory time.
