POTSDAM The New York State Department of Health, St. Lawrence County Public Health Department and St. Lawrence County Water Quality Coordinating Committee are co-sponsoring a St. Lawrence County Taste Off on May 13. It will be held at the Wal-Mart Super Center located at 7494 on Route 11 from 11 a.m. until noon. Employees and customers will be invited to taste water samples from each of the competing water systems and vote for their choice of best tasting water. At the end of the event, the votes will be counted, and the best tasting water in St. Lawrence County will be announced.
Each year since 1987, the New York State Department of Health has sponsored an informal drinking water taste test to determine the best tasting drinking water in New York State. The process begins with local taste offs where the local best tasting water is selected. The winner of the local taste-off then advances to the Regional event and hopefully all the way to the final competition at the New York State Fair. At the State Fair, the Best Tasting Water in New York State will be determined.
Although it is not a scientific survey, these local taste-offs provide an excellent opportunity to promote drinking water and drinking water issues and have consistently proven to be a favorite among the drinking water professionals in St. Lawrence County.
