RAYMONDVILLE — A Norwood driver was arrested Tuesday after allegedly hitting a bicyclist and a utility pole.

State police on Tuesday charged Timothy A. Scott, 27, of 27 Cedar St., with possession of a hypodermic needle and three vehicle and traffic law violations.

Troopers allege that Mr. Scott struck bicyclist Gabriel Houle with the side-view mirror of his truck on Route 56, Norfolk, shortly after noon.

Mr. Houle suffered a bruise on his arm but did not seek medical attention following the incident.

Then at 12:20 p.m., troopers said, a patrol found Mr. Scott’s truck in Raymondville, where it sheared a National Grid utility pole in half. Troopers said Mr. Scott told them he was experiencing steering and brake problems with his 2002 Chevy Silverado.

After a search, troopers said they discovered a hypodermic needle in Mr. Scott’s pocket. They also determined that he did not have a driver’s license.

Mr. Scott was ticketed for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stay to the right and imprudent speed.

He was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Norfolk Town Court.

State police said he was later turned over to Massena Village Police, who held a 2012 bench warrant for his arrest on a petit larceny charge.

He was arraigned in Massena Village Court on that warrant and released on his own recognizance.
