Public hearing to address Ogdensburg no-parking zone Monday

OGDENSBURG — A public hearing at Monday’s City Council meeting will gather input from residents on a revision to the municipal code that shortens a no-parking zone on Ford Street in front of Phillips Diner.

City Manager John M. Pinkerton said the revision is needed to bring the municipal code up in line with the practical no-parking zone that exists on the ground already.

“We just had it wrong when we did it the first time,” Mr. Pinkerton said of the code.

The current no-parking zone extends 30 feet east – towards Phillips Diner – from the intersection of Ford and Caroline streets.

The no-parking zone is there to ensure that cars turning off Caroline Street have adequate line of sight to see traffic on Ford Street.

Mr. Pinkerton said the revision would correct the problem by reducing the no-parking zone so that parking is only prohibited from the no-parking sign that already exists to the curb.

“It’s to identify where the sign actually is [in the code],” he said.

The reduction would provide parking for an additional car by the curb.

Mr. Pinkerton said the problem would have gone unnoticed had it not been for technology specialist Patricia A. Paquin combing through the code.
