LOWVILLE — Caleb Beach doubled, singled and knocked in two runs as South Jefferson’s baseball team opened its season by winning a pair of Frontier League games on Thursday, capped by an 8-1 win over Lowville in a “B” Division game.

Logan LaFlamme struck out seven in four innings of relief to earn the win for the Spartans (2-0). Jake McConahay singled twice and scored a run for the Red Raiders (1-1).

SOUTH JEFFERSON 8, CARTHAGE 7

Cody Modlin doubled, singled and drove in two runs, including being credited with game-winning RBI when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning, as the Spartans edged the Comets in an interdivisional game played at Lowville.

Beach tripled, singled and drove in a run for South Jefferson, and Adam Hutchinson singled and knocked in a pair of runs.

Andrew Smith tripled and drove in two runs for Carthage (0-2, 0-3).

LOWVILLE 7, CARTHAGE 0

Jordan Arthur and Ian Collins combined on a four-hitter as the Red Raiders blanked the Comets in a divisional crossover game at Lowville.

Arthur, who was credited with the win, also doubled in two runs for Lowville.

James Bailey singled twice to pace the Comets.

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

PASTOR, PLATT STAR AT SOUTH JEFF MEET

South Jefferson’s Skylar Pastor and Christina Platt of South Lewis each won three events at the South Jefferson Spring Break Invitational in Adams.

Pastor captured the 100- and 200-meter dash events, as well as the high jump.

Platt claimed the pole vault, as well as the 400 and 800 runs.

Beaver River’s Courtney Cardinal won the shot put and the discus, while South Jefferson’s Amanda Lloyd placed first in the 1,500 and 3,000 runs.
