FORT DRUM — A soldier from post was airlifted by a LifeNet helicopter to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, late Monday after being shot in the course of a live-fire training exercise.

Post spokeswoman Julie A. Cupernall said the unnamed 10th Mountain Division soldier was in stable condition at the hospital. At the time of the incident, she said, medical staff were on site at Range 52, as standard operating procedure.

The incident is under investigation by the post’s safety officials, the leadership of the unspecified unit involved in the training and the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command.
