Equestrian: Saints advance to nationals after zone victory

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The St. Lawrence University riding team won the 2014 Zone 2 Championship Sunday at the Hunt Club and advanced to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association nationals May 1-4 in Harrisburg, Pa.

The Saints finished with 46 points, nine ahead of Skidmore College. Cornell was third.

Alyssa Bokor captured open equitation over fences for the Saints.

Jessie Lewis won equitation over fences and Manon Edeline took first in walk trot equitation.

Emily D’Alessandro, who won an individual title in 2012, claimed open equitation on the flat and qualified as an individual in nationals.

The Saints’ Mackenzie Alderman, who won class 6 intermediate equitation over fences, also will compete in the individual championship.

The Saints seek a third straight national team title.
