CROGHAN State police arrested a Croghan man after they said he forged his former girlfriends name on a vehicle title and signed the vehicle over to himself.
Joseph W. Russell, 44, of 618 Route 177, was arrested at 8:49 a.m. Monday at the state police barracks in Lowville and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a class D felony. He forged the name of Mary Miller on the vehicle title and then used the forged title to register the vehicle under only his name, police said.
It is unclear if the vehicle was shared between Mr. Russell and Ms. Miller.
He was arraigned in Lowville Town Court and released on his own recognizance.
