POTSDAM — Trenton Tarbell scored four goals and Kyle Lewis assisted on four as the Salmon River boys lacrosse team won its season opener, defeating Massena 9-1 in an Northern Athletic Conference game at SUNY Potsdam on Saturday night.

Skye Sunday and Kason Tarbell both scored two goals for Salmon River. Russ Oakes and Dalton Roundpoint added single goals. Sako Rourke scored for the Red Raiders (1-1 overall and division).

CARTHAGE 13, GENERAL BROWN 4

Bailey Wilkinson provided three goals and two assists, and Paul Bracy won 9-of-12 faceoffs to go with two goals as the Comets dealt the Lions their first loss in a FL interdivision game in Dexter.

Josh Yelvington and Alex Mack scored three goals apiece, and Trevor Gibbons stopped nine shots for Carthage (3-0).

Cole Johnson scored twice and added an assist for General Brown (3-1, 2-1).

CORCORAN 15, SOUTH JEFFERSON 7

Sean Eccles finished with three goals and six assists as the host Cougars (2-1) spoiled the season opener for the Spartans in a nonleague game.

Austin Robare scored three goals, and Caleb Alford generated two goals and two assists for South Jefferson.

GIRLS LACROSSE

CANTON 15, SALMON RIVER 9

Lacey Kenny tallied four goals to lead the Golden Bears (2-0) past Salmon River in an NAC game at SUNY Canton.

Claire Bartlett and Tess Knight scored three goals each for Canton. Rachel Huntley added two goals for the Golden Bears.

Chrissy Benedict and Kyra Thompson both tallied three goals for the Shamrocks (0-2).

HEUVELTON 16, SARANAC LAKE 1

A nine-goal effort from Jackie Sovie led Heuvelton past Saranac Lake (0-3) in an NAC game at SUNY Potsdam.

Olivia St. Pierre added four goals for Heuvelton (1-1), which also received goals from Kylie Piercey, Maddie St. Pierre and Renee Breault.

SOUTH JEFFERSON 14, MASSENA 2

Lara Podvin and Morgan Alexander scored three goals each as the Spartans earned a FL nonleague win over the Red Raiders at Watertown.

Maddie Knapp contributed two goals and three assists, and Hayley Maguire scored twice for South Jefferson (1-2).

MARCELLUS 14, GENERAL BROWN 7

Audrey Cerrone scored five goals as the Mustangs dealt the Lions a nonleague loss at Dexter.

Grace Nolan added four goals and five assists for Marcellus (3-1).

Bryanna Fazlio led General Brown (2-2) with four goals, Hannah Peebles added two and Jill Primicias finished with a goal and one assist.
