ADAMS — The village’s annual Arbor Day celebration will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at South Jefferson High School. Admission is $1.

Honored during the 2014 Citizen of the Year ceremony at 11 a.m. will be Robert and Connie Orr. Trees will be given away during the event, which will feature a live “Birds of Prey” presentation by master falconer Rick West, crafters, children’s activities and pruning and tree planting workshops hosted by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Jefferson County. Farm animals and fire trucks will also be on display.

The village’s link to the annual holiday in April goes back to 1972, when Adams native Julius S. Morton launched the event in Nebraska by planting more than 1 million trees.
