AMHERST - A few weeks ago, it seemed very unlikely that the Potsdam Ice Storm would be one of the final four teams left in the Tier II 16U girls national tournament.
The Ice Storm had just finished as the third seed coming our of the Northern Zone sectionals and headed to the state tournament in a definite underdog role. But when the final whistle had sounded at the state tournament the championship trophy was headed back to Potsdam.
And the Ice Storm won three straight games after dropping their opener in the national tournament. But the dream for a repeat performance for number of players who skated in the national title game fell just short Saturday evening as the Ice Storm dropped a 4-1 decision to Marquette in the semi-final round. Marquette had also downed the Ice Storm 5-2 in the opening game of the tournament.
