CARTHAGE—Following a confrontation with state police Thursday night, James R. Travis, 29, of 22563 Boyd Road, was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and unlawfully possessing marijuana.

Police said Mr. Travis was “highly intoxicated” shortly before 10 p.m. and had nearly fallen off an unspecified bridge. He then began to swear at police and resist arrest, requiring troopers to wrestle Mr. Travis to the ground.

He was additionally charged with marijuana possession, but police did not specify the amount.

He was arrested at the state police barracks in Carthage at 10:55 p.m. He was arraigned in Village Court and released on his own recognizance.
