LYONS FALLS — It was a big “no” for voters in Lyons Falls, as 129 taxpayers and residents turned out for a public referendum on a proposed sewer improvement project.

Including absentee ballots, 96 voters were against the project, while 33 voted in favor.

Voting yes would have authorized the issuance of serial bonds in an amount not to exceed $3.95 million for improvements to the wastewater treatment facility, expanding the collection system in the village to provide services to village residents not now served at an estimated $250 increase to residents annually.

“I am very disappointed that we’re not going to be able to take advantage of this zero percent interest loan and this incredible opportunity,” Mayor Catherine L. Liendecker said via phone after ballots were tallied late Tuesday.

“But least we have a completed engineer report in case something else comes up in the near future,” she said.
