DEFERIET — The village will hold a public hearing on its proposed $464,400 budget today in conjunction with its bimonthly meeting. The meeting is set for 6 p.m. at the municipal building, 61 Riverside Drive.

The 2014-15 budget is up $6,787 from this year’s $457,613 spending plan, due to increased costs for employee benefits, fuel and utilities, said village Treasurer James E. Yuhas.

The tax levy has increased $9,799 to $245,898, but the tax rate will remain the same at $9 per $1,000 of assessed property value.

Mr. Yuhas said village officials were able to “hold the line on variables in order to keep the tax rate stable.”

“Some line items went up; some went down,” he said.

The budget includes $20,469 for road repair.

“This winter has taken a toll on our roads,” the treasurer said. “We are hopeful (the budget) will cover the expenses.”
