Senior Games end NAC Basketball season

CANTON - The Northern Conference Basketball season couldn’t have come to a more fitting conclusion as Section 10 and the Jules of Life Foundation hosted the annual Sea Comm NAC Senior Games, Three-Point Shooting Contest and Slam Dunk Competiiton at SLU’s Burkman Gym on Tuesday.The event raised funds for the Lisbon-based Jules of Life Foundation which provides emotional and financial support for children, an their families, who are victimized by cancer.

The final game of the NAC campaign saw OFA’s Mark Henry and Justin Todd of St. Regis Falls, who led their teams to undefeated Central and East Division championships, guide Duke to a 68-57 victory over Syracuse in the Boys Exceptional Senior Game.

Henry came out on the winning end of the decision at the expense of Matt Piercey and Colin Ross of the Blue Devils’ New York State Class B Final Four Team. Earlier in the evening Madrid-Waddington Coach Gary Tischler guided Stanford which erased a 16-point deficit and then prevailed over Mike Meyer’s UConn 50-47 in overtime in the Girls Exceptional Senior Game.

In between Massena’s Zevon Viskovich won the slam dunk and St. Regis Falls’ Tyler Daggett outdueled Morristown’s Sam Green for overall honors in the Three-Point Shooting Contest.

BOYS SENIOR GAME

Kaden Dandrow of Edwards-Knox tallied 14 points with a pair of three-pointers leading Duke to a wire-to-wire victory, Adam Martin of Brushton-Moira buried three threes scoring 11 points and St. Regis Falls’ Brandon Votraw worked the paint for 12 points with six in each half. Malone’s Alex Johnson tallied nine points and Lisbon’s Jake Putney, Heuvelton’s Reilly Pierce and Madrid-Waddington’s Jacob Barney followed with six and five points.

Louis Goodrow of St. Regis Falls and Austin LaMay of Malone added two points apiece.

OFA’s Matt Piercey buried four threes scoring 14 points for Syracuse and Corey LaBounty of St. Regis netted 13. Xavier Viskovich netted nine points followed by Josh White of St. Lawrence Central (5), Harrisville’s Tim Fowler (4), Lisbon’s Jimmy Robinson (4), Hermon-DeKalb’s Cody Merritt (2), Massena’s Tyler Haas (2), OFA’s Colin Ross (2) and Massena’s Rhoades Tarbell (2).

GIRLS SENIOR GAME

Malone’s Morgan Fountain scored four of her 12 points in overtime and Heuvelton’s Logan Tallman netted two free throws with one-half second to play in overtime to seal the issue for Stanford. Canton’s Kali Frank and Tallman each scored six points with Madrid-Waddington’s Tess Knight netting five.

Hermon-DeKalb’s Courtney Harrington, Heuvelton’s Maddie St. Pierre, Edwards-Knox’s Jadelyn Bullock and OFA’s Meg Dodge each added four points.

Massena’s Sam Villnave scored 10 points for UConn with Lexi Weidner connecting for eight. Norwood-Norfolk’s Candace Hunkins and H-D’s Hunter Hitchman, who sent the game into overtime with a long three-pointer, each finished with five points.

Lisbon’s Jackie Sovie chipped in four points, H-D’s Kasey O’Donnell, Salmon River’s Taylor Francis and Morristown’s Jordyn Tulley added field goals and Lisbon’s Beth Crowley chipped in a free throw.

SKILLS CONTESTS

Morristown’s Sam Green used a big final rack to put up the winning number as the first shooter in the Girls Three-Point Contest. St. Regis Falls’ Tyler Daggett was locked in from the start in both the Boys Three-Point Contest and the shootout for overall honors.

SLU basketball players in Kyle Kobis, Kyle Edwards and Massena product Brady Condlin judged the Slam Dunk Contest where Massena’s Zevon Viskovich, Malone’s Alex Johnson and Dan Pharoah of Edwards-Knox advanced to the finals.

Viskovich prevailed by a narrow margin over Johnson claim the title of Section 10’s Dunk King.
