NORFOLK - 4-H Shooting Sports, like all 4-H programs, emphasizes positive youth development and acquisition of valuable life skills. Participants learn to work together while gaining self-confidence and communication skills. Once again this year, Cornell Cooperative Extension of St. Lawrence County is providing an 8 week 4-H Shooting Sports Program during April and May for youth 12 to 19 to years of age. Under the supervision of certified 4-H Shooting Sports Instructors, youth will gain practical experience in firearm safety while participating on ranges with .22 caliber rifles, shotguns and archery equipment.
Instruction will include firearm safety, basic marksmanship, range procedures, and care of firearms. Students will also be introduced to archery, map and compass, GPS and basic outdoor skills. The programs will take place at the Norfolk Rod & Gun Club and the Extension Learning Farm in Canton.
The program is open to all youth, ages 12 to 19, but registrants will be enrolled in both 4-H and the Norfolk Rod & Gun Club.
