DEKALB JUNCTION – The Orebed Sugar Shack, 503 Orebed Road, is hosting a 5K Sap Run on Saturday. Registration is at 1 p.m. with an official start at 1:30 p.m. The Sap Run is a fund raiser to benefit the St. Lawrence County Cancer Fund.
The Sap Run 5K is a non-competitive, fun run/walk to raise money for the fight against cancer in St. Lawrence County. Anyone can participate; those raising a total of $25 will receive a free T-shirt (while supplies last). You can run, walk, jog or push a stroller. Participation can be as individuals or groups. Each group member must fill out their own registration form with a minimum registration fee or sponsorship of $25 to receive an event T-shirt. After the run, weather permitting, participants can watch syrup being made. It the weather doesnt allow boiling to take place, dont worry, there will be plenty of samples of maple syrup, maple candy and maple cream. There will also be several great raffles taking place. Come join the fun for a cause that directly benefits those in St. Lawrence County.
If you arent able to join for the walk/run, please think about joining for the ceremonial tree tapping signaling the beginning of sugaring season in the north country. The tree tapping ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at the Orebed Sugar Shack.
