NEW BREMEN The Town Council has chosen Donald W. Getman to fill the position vacated by Councilman Matthew E. Bush, who resigned effective Jan. 1.
The board arrived at its decision following interviews with three candidates who expressed interest in the seat.
Along with Mr. Getman, Steve Brooks and Perry D. Lehman were interviewed. A three-person citizens committee also participated in the interviews.
The committee recommended Mr. Getman before the vote.
Supervisor Peter J. Keys, Councilwoman Susan Sauer and Councilman Joseph E. Aucter voted in favor of Mr. Getman.
Councilman David L. Becker voted for Mr. Brooks.
Mr. Becker defeated Mr. Getman in a three-way race for two open board seats in November.
Mr. Aucter said it was Mr. Getmans campaign that helped tip the scales in favor of choosing him to fill the vacancy.
He had expressed an interest in November by going through the democratic process, Mr. Aucter said. Seeing that 365 people of our town wanted him then that was hard to turn down.
Mr. Getman was sworn in at the board meeting Monday.
His appointment continues through the end of 2014. He will be required to run for the seat again in November.
