FORT DRUM — In a statement released this week, Sen. Charles E. Schumer called on the Army to approve expeditiously the contract for ReEnergy Holdings LLC to supply biomass power to the post.

“This contract is great news for this marquee North Country energy company and for Ft. Drum, and we need it to be approved sooner than later because we’ve been waiting far too long to make Ft. Drum energy secure,” he said in a statement.

The Army on Feb. 19 announced its intent to award the company the contract, but did not specify when it would be finalized.

The planned 20-year deal will call on the company to supply up to 28 megawatts of power. The contract would be the largest renewable energy project taken on by the Army to date.
