GOUVERNEUR An furnace malfunction early Friday caused a fire that destroyed a Gouverneur mans home.
The Gouverneur Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 551 Route 11 house fire at 2:20 a.m., according to the St. Lawrence County Fire Investigation team.
Homeowner Kenneth L. Streeter, who was home at the time of the fire, escaped without injury.
His house was uninsured. He is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
Firefighters were on the scene until about 4:20 am. No other injuries were reported.
Oxbow Volunteer Fire Department and Gouverneur Volunteer Rescue Squad also responded to the scene.
