Saints’ Edwards, Dalton named top rookies in Liberty League

CANTON — St. Lawrence University’s Kyle Edwards was a unanimous selection as the Liberty League’s men’s basketball rookie of the year Monday as the league announced its all-star teams.

Edwards, who is from Norwich and the first SLU rookie of the year since 2007, led all first-year players in the conference with 11.7 points per game. He also led league freshman in 3-point percentage and field goals, as well as assists and assist-to-turnover ratio.

The Saints’ Kyle Kobis also made the league’s all-rookie team. He averaged 11.6 points per game.

n St. Lawrence’s Caroline Dalton was selected the Liberty League’s co-rookie of the year and junior Kara McDuffee was named a unanimous pick to the league’s first-team as the women’s basketball all-stars were announced. Dalton shared the award with William Smith’s Melanie Patterson. Dalton led the league’s rookies in points per game (8.5) and rebounds per game (5.5).

McDuffee was sixth in the conference with 14.6 points per game and second in rebounding (11.3). The Saints’ Kelly Legg was named an honorable mention pick. The Saints’ women’s basketball staff, led by head coach Dan Roiger, was named co-coaching staff of the year.
