MORRISTOWN — Besides the shared goal of generally “saving money,” there is nothing concrete to the discussions being held by the Morristown and Hammond Central School districts regarding consolidation and finding efficiencies.

Hammond Central Interim Superintendent Randy C. Richards said the district’s board of education will present its ideas for shared services at its March 11 meeting.

“There is nothing solid yet,” he said. “Most of the list consists of broad areas for shared services to save money. We are going to wait to discuss it with the board first before we make any determinations or share that information with the public.”

Morristown Central School Superintendent David J. Glover said the two districts are still in the process of determining “what would make sense and what wouldn’t make sense.”

The next conversation between the two districts will be held in mid- to late March, Mr. Glover said.

“So far we’ve looked at technical support, cafeteria services and talked administrative assistants,” Mr. Richards said. “We’re trying to position both districts well for the future.”

He said the schools already share transportation and food services. To save money on extracurricular costs, students compete in sports teams outside their resident districts. Mr. Glover said the districts have also been considering sharing some academic services, especially college courses and electives, and possibly a superintendent.
