HEUVELTON - Two seats are up for grabs in this years Heuvelton village elections.
Trustees Neal R. Parish and E. Jack Wood are both up reelection. The elections are scheduled for Nov. 4.
The election calendar has not yet been released by the state Legislature, and St. Lawrence County Board of Elections Republican Commissioner Thomas A. Nichols recommended prospective candidates reach out to their town political party chiefs to get the ball rolling on campaigns. More information can be found on the county Board of Elections website.
Both Mr. Parish and Mr. Wood, Republicans, won reelection in 2012 when they ran unopposed.
Mr. Parish, who is also a volunteer firefighter in his 29th year with the Heuvelton department, said he plans on running again.
A nine-year veteran of the board, Mr. Parish said everyone in the village knows him.
I want to keep taxes fair, Mr. Parish said, adding that he hopes to see improvements made to the villages public works systems at a responsible pace.
You can only afford so much, he said. Youve got to take it one step at a time.
Mr. Parish said on the whole, things in the village run pretty smoothly, and hed like to help continue that.
Mr. Wood could not be reached for comment Friday.
