A Jefferson County Court jury deliberated about 4½ hours Thursday without reaching a verdict in the trial of a Watertown man accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl.
Jon K. Massey, 52, faces three counts each of predatory sexual assault of a child and first-degree criminal sexual act, as well as two counts of second-degree course of sexual conduct against a child. It is alleged that he had repeated sexual contact with the child from September 2009 to April 2010 in Watertown.
Prosecutors contend Mr. Massey made inappropriate comments to the girl and touched her before the behavior escalated to sexual abuse. Mr. Masseys defense attorney has countered that the girl made up the allegations to retaliate against Mr. Massey for taking the girls mothers side in a disagreement over the girls boyfriend.
Deliberations are set to resume this morning.
