SYRACUSE Kailah Kempney handed out a career-high five assists as the second-ranked Syracuse University womens lacrosse team defeated No. 9 Virginia, 18-14, in the Oranges inaugural Atlantic Coast Conference game Sunday afternoon at the Carrier Dome.
Kempney, the 2011 Times All-North MVP who starred at Carthage High School, also scored a goal and won two draw controls for Syracuse (4-0, 1-0). Kayla Treanor paced the attack with five goals and two assists, and Devon Collins added four goals for the Orange.
Courtney Swan led the Cavaliers (1-3, 0-1) with four goals and two assists, while Maddy Keeshan netted three goals.
