DANBURY, Conn. — Cody Ayers scored a pair of goals and assisted on another, including tallying the game-winner early in the third period, as the Danbury Whalers rallied past the Watertown Privateers, 4-2 on Friday night in a Federal Hockey League game at Danbury Ice Arena.

The Privateers played their second game under new head coach Brett Clarke after previous head coach Brad Zangs was fired by the team on Thursday. Clarke, who played earlier this season with the Privateers, led the team to a 4-3 victory at Danbury later on Thursday.

Zangs had guided Watertown to 14-23 record, including nine consecutive losses — capped by Sunday’s 6-3 setback to Dayton.

On Friday, Tim Richter generated a goal and two assists for Danbury (26-14) and goalie Mike Brown made 26 saves.

Beni Berisha scored a pair of goals in the first period to stake Watertown (15-24) to a 2-0 lead and Dane Erickson recorded two assists.

Matt Anthony stopped 53 of 56 shots faced for the Privateers.
