TROY Matt Weninger stopped all 22 shots he faced and Greg Carey registered three assists as St. Lawrence University blanked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, 4-0 on Friday night in an ECAC Hockey game on Friday night at Houston Field House.
Chris Martin scored a goal and assisted on two others for the Saints (12-15-4, 6-9-4) and Riley Austin contributed a goal and an assist.
Matt Carey also scored a goal for St. Lawrence, which improved to 3-1-1 over its past five road games and also snapped a four-game skid against the Engineers.
Weninger, who made eight saves in the third period to hold off the Engineers, recorded his seventh career shutout and his first of the season.
Scott Diebold finished with 28 saves for RPI (13-13-5, 7-8-4).
After Martin opened the scoring with his goal seven minutes, 43 seconds into the second period, Austin followed with a score at 18:33 of the period for his first goal of the season for a 2-0 St. Lawrence lead.
Matt Carey and Patrick Doherty followed with breakaway goals in the third period, with Carey scoring at 3:30 and Doherty followed with a shorthanded tally at 11:02.
With the victory, the Saints moved into sole possession of eighth place in the league, one ahead of Brown, which was edged by Dartmouth, 2-1 in overtime on Friday.
