Lewis County bowling alley deal moving slowly

LOWVILLE — Lewis County legislators are seeking requests for proposals to establish office space needs to complete an engineering study for the Lewis Lanes bowling alley.

A $1 million purchase agreement on the property contains three conditions to be met to allow the sale. The engineering study must show the property will meet the county’s needs for office space.

An environmental study must be completed and an appraisal must be conducted and meet or exceed the purchase price. An appraisal had yet to be scheduled as of Friday afternoon. Legislators were unsure whether DGM Coon & Co., an appraisal company used for a preliminary estimate before signing the contract, would be used for the official appraisal.

In an order issued by state Supreme Court Judge Hugh A. Gilbert following a lawsuit prompted by the former board’s decision to rescind the contract, both parties agree to suspend the lawsuit. That lawsuit can be reinstated if the bowling alley owners subsequently believe the county violated the contract.
