St. Lawrence Universitys Matt Weninger was selected as ECAC Hockey goaltender of the week and defenseman Gavin Bayreuther was named as the conferences rookie of the week following the Saints road sweep of Princeton and Quinnipiac.
Weninger earned goaltender of the week honors for the second time this season and Bayreuther earned his first rookie of the week award and is the third Saints first-year player rookie to earn the honor, joining Matt Carey (twice) and Drew Smolcynski.
Weninger made 24 saves in a 7-1 win at Princeton on Friday and came back with a 31-save night in a 3-2 win over No. 3-ranked Quinnipiac on Saturday.
The win at Quinnipiac was his third straight on Bobcat ice and he has saved 95 of 98 shots in those three wins. St. Lawrence also recorded its first weekend sweep since early November and the win over Quinnipiac was the seventh this season against a team that has been ranked in the top 20.
Bayreuther generated four assists in the win at Princeton, the most productive night for a Saint blueliner since Drew Bagnall scored two goals and assisted on three others in a win at Yale in January of 2005. Bayreuther scored his seventh of the season in the win at Quinnipiac on Saturday and has scored at least one point every weekend thus far this season.
